“I received training in every aspect of site joinery. I also received training in the use of power tools for which I have a CITB approved card. My instructor was very experienced and taught me lots of skills. I am now employed by Paul Bramwood Construction as a working foreman and I am doing really well for myself.”
Craig Parfitt, Site Joinery apprentice
Entry Requirements
We are looking for willing and enthusiastic young people who want to work in construction.
- Applicants should have GSCE Maths and English at Grade C or above
- Applicants must complete a set of entry tests and successfully complete a one day workshop where they can demonstrate their enthusiasm and aptitude for the construction industry
- • We recruit throughout the year to maintain our numbers at the centres.
- Our focus is very much on quality not quantity
“I chose bricklaying because I like doing manual tasks, being on my feet and keeping busy. My apprenticeship lasted 18 months and was a mix of centre based training and on site job experience with construction companies. I loved it straight away. I did three placements on different sites, allowing me to gather enough evidence for my NVQ in Trowel Trades. After getting my NVQ and CSCS card I started working with a local construction firm.”
Laurelle Hodgetts, Trowel Occupations apprentice

- Whilst on work placement, an NVQ assessor observes and gathers evidence that is matched to the performance criteria of the NVQ.
- Once the apprentice has satisfied all of the performance criteria for their chosen trade they will be required to complete a Health & Safety touch screen test - on success they will receive a Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) card which states their qualifications on the back.
